Heated seats were standard on both cars. All you should need to do is connect up the connector under the seat and everything should be a go.
That is, of course, unless the 'new' seats you put in have defective heater coils. If the seat isn't heating, it's reasonable to assume the heating element has broken. It usually happens on the seat cushion, on the front outside, because that gets the most abuse getting in and out of the car. You can test the seat heater for continuity on a cold day (because there is a thermoswitch in series with the heating coil).
The only difference would be if the 87 car has thermostatically controlled seats. In the '85, the seat was either on or off, controlled by a temperature switch in the seat. No control. In SOME '87 cars, there was a temperature controller in the dashboard. That has entirely different wiring. Look under the seat. If the connector has only two wires, one black, one yellow, then you've got the older style. If the connector has three wires, black blue, and yellow/violet, then you've got the kind that needs a controller.
If the seats are the controller kind (this would be the driver's side only), you can wire up a controller, but you'd need to get a controller and add the wiring harness.
