Bad gas on the trip?

She should be running fine - its just a pup. My Saabs always go through seasonal adjustments. Not scientific, but when the weather gets consistently cold they often crank hard and get some valve noise and chain rattle. My chain is brand new and this morning (0 degrees F) it was pretty loud. My old '90 base tapped like hell, but the SPG is "reasonably" quiet...considering dead alt bushings, whistling egr T vac fitting and noisy throw out bearing, etc.

If your idle is solid (mine isn't...) and your not getting any hesitation or stumble, your AIC is new...and will all the tune up bits...and its still fast...you likely don't have a vac leak or a crapped AMM. Maybe a vac leak at the charcoal canister if you didn't replace that line (rubber fitting from the hard plastic line to the canister top).

You'd know if it were missing. When the car is warm is the idle still loud? I thought that bad wires or coil would show up when on demand, not just idling - or without noicable signs like hesitation. Are you burning any oil? Loosing any coolant? Take a look at the plugs to see if the a/f mixture is off.

My fuel pump (recent fiasco...) was grinding pretty badly before I replaced it. There were a bunch of metal filings in the screened canister. The car was hesitating a lot around 2500rpms and the new pump smoothed it all out. In troubleshooting (BB search) I read that a dying fuel pump usually does show reduced gas mileage. FWIW, my idle is still crummy (maybe the 24lb injectors and 3 bar fpr...rich), and gas mileage didn't improve, but one fuzzy to diagnose symptom is gone.

Regarding the exhaust, if you don't get the muffler and tailpipe piece aligned right the muffler won't sit level or the tailpipe will contact the axle. If you don't get the bits seated fully (or do anything to change the "length" of the system) the tailpipe will tap the axle. Mine hits the axle when I have two people in back (or a bunch of Ikea shit...my last trip).

Good luck.
