Front Brake calipers wont fit new pads...

I bought some new brakes from Autozone.. Not bad semi metallic by Albany. Autozone gave me a lifetime warranty .. free brake pads for life. haha. Anyhow when I put the pads in and try to lower the caliper it won't fit. Theres no room for the new pads. My old ones were a centimeter or two thick and making squelling sounds. Had them for a year and a half. I tried pushing the piston back, but it won't move any farther. So I put my old pads back on. Any suggestions? Thanks
