That about sums up my feelings - my 1987 convertible>>>

is the 'fun' car and after doing the A/C (leaky hose), clutch (worn disk, leaking slave and worn pedal bushing) as well as a few other smaller 'repairs' (read maintenance) at 130,000miles, the car is very reliable and I can't wait for the spring to come so I can drive it. My 1996 2.3 NA is solid but it is one of only 2 cars (of the over 30 I have owned and driven over 800,000 miles over the last 40+ years) that left me stranded - the sepentine belt idler pulley self-destructed and shredded the belt. Our son, in his 1994 900 V6 came and towed us to the dealer. I now keep a spare idler pulley and belt in the trunk and the tools to change it - it is such a simple thing that I will replace both after they have done 80,000 kilometers. Will the 1996 be so forgiving in 2010 (14 years old, just as my 1987 is now) at 215,000 kilometers (approx 130,000 miles) - I don't think so, there are more proprietary pieces on the 1996 made of plastic, more electronics to go bad, etc. older equals simpler!
BTW they both get about 35mpg (imperial gallons!)
