well today i received a new walbro pump from sobstory... the story goes :

The old pump died while I was watching the Shipping News... a week later to my surprise, I managed to "tap" the old pump back to life. A week later it died again. So it was a perfect time for a new one. Ordered one from Sobstory.com. In the meantime I again "tap" the pump to work, only to die again that very night.

I have that pump this afternoon and realized the whole check valve issue, which I still confuse about:

1) Some say that the 1990 pump had the check valve built in. Maybe true because the old old valve had no ball and spring. When I "tapped" the old pump into life was reinstalling it, I managed to break the supply valve and was force to buy another at the dealer. $7 brought me a supply valve with ball and spring, but it was different than the previous, so like a Dremel nut I am, I drilled the ball and spring out. Put every thing back into place, and everything was fine until the pump died again.

2) Well maybe this is the only question. The Walbro pump I recieved from Sobstory. Check valve in the pump or not. My instinct is that is. There is a ball or something rolling in the pump when you shake it, but when I blow into the pump's supply tube it hisses for about 4 seconds and then no more air can be blown into the pump... I would guess that the pump is stopping the air flow through a check valve; when shaking again, this is no "rolling" sound inside the pump. The old pump had the same rolling sound. The debate is that some of the post stated that newer pumps do not inlcude the check valve.. and maybe evidently the supply vavle I bought from the dealer proves this . So what do u guys say.. and round about we go.

Again this is a new pump from sobstory. I didn't specifically ask Jim... but he did send me a pack of M&M's... how nice.
