Saabs are excellent snow cars...

...but if you have old, worn tires or tires that were simply not designed for anything but "summer" driving, you'll be at a disadvantage. If you get icy conditions often, you'll be better off purchasing a set of snow tires.
Sand bags are for cars with rear wheel drive - the added weight on the driving wheels increases traction - so you don't need them. Saabs already have a considerable amount of weight on their driving wheels.
My experience living in both New England (where people drive Saabs for their winter performance prowess - just go to snowy Vermont to see *tons* of them) and the mountains of Utah has been that Saabs are excellent in snow.
