I finally got the old cable out; I removed the RIGHT speaker grill and disentangled it from the heater duct, also cut off the non-DIN plug for the ground connections. Then it turned out that the DIN cable supplied with my new in-dash changer is too short to make it around all the obstacles from the lower DIN slot to the upper. An extension is on order, and I hope to get this project done next weekend.
