Before you go accusing the alternator, I would check the brushes on the alternator. You can buy a new voltage regulator kit (comes with new brushes) for like 30 or 40 bucks from many of the online saabnet sponsors. The voltage regulator is quite easy to replace, simply held on to the back of the alternator (facing the front of the car) by two screws, although the screw closest to the block is difficult to get a hold of.. Most likely that will fix your problem, and you won't need a new alternator. Your new battery should be fine. :o)
