FYI - Charging Problem Saga

About three weeks ago I got in my car and it would barely crank the starter. I had no previous symptoms so I thought it odd. I jumped the car it started right up and drove to work. Everything functioned normally during the drive. It was about 13 miles so I figured it should be charged, right. I tried a re-start immediately after turning the key off and it would barely crank. Since I had driven to work on the alternator I made the assumption that the alternator was good. After getting a jump to get started after work I drove home and pulled the battery. I went to my local Sears and was satisfied when the salesman returned from the tester and told me the battery was no good. I bought a new one and installed and was back in business. Everything was great for 5 days. On Saturday, after a drive of about 15 miles the problem was back. I charged the battery overnight and it fired right up. I pulled the Voltage Regulator and brush assembly and found the brushes to be very worn. Now I know where my problem is and I am not very happy that I have a battery that I probably didn't need. At any rate, I order the regulator and chage the battery nightly until I recieve the part. I put the regulator in and I am relieved that I have it fixed. Four days later I am pulling my hair out as the problem is back. For lack of anything else to try I run a ground wire from the alternator to the frame. VOILA, PROBLEM SOLVED. Just to note during this entire time my battery light never came on, and yes, it works. Anyone want to see my pretty new battery. (Thanks Sears!!!!)
