I have had several speaker/amplifier combinations in the cars i've had, and my experience is a good amp can make crappy speakers sound good, butgood speakers can't make a weak amp strong. As far as ohms, the lower the ohms, the more speakers can be safely bridged into one channel, the numbers vary based on the amplifier and type of bridging you use, but i'd invest more money into the amp, and get a good active crossover network, set right, to ensure the best clarity. Also, stock head units usually don't produce near enough low-end signal for good sound, so replacing the head unit is also a very good step. For the best clarity, a decent cd player run through the crossover to separate amplifiers(2 speakers to each two channel amp) and tuned not to overlap frequencies will produce the most overall distortion free, clear, and crisp sound, all through the frequency range. Hope this helps!
