My first inclination would be the ignition control module, right hand driver fender...see web page below. It can be temperature sensitive, failing as it electrically heats up...works as it electrically cools down sometimes......this appears to be your case since you can restart after a while....price of this thing ~$41, also need electrical white heat paste (heat sink compound) from Radio Shack to place under it when changing so heat from the device goes into the mounting block (sometimes provided with ECU module)...the ECU is only mounted with two screws and has a electrical plug on the bottom with a connector release wire...Because you can restart I do not suspect the distributor if the wires to the distributor side is not loose.

But a fuel pump relay or fuel pre-pump or main pump can do this too. If the tach was twiching when you tried to start but could not..then I would look to the fuel pumps or fuel pump relay....a fuel pump would normally be a little noisely as it wears or binds....can usually hear it from the drivers seat...pumps should only have soft hiss sound when you open the trunk...
