I need some help on what seems to be quite frequent problem for Saabs. Less than 4 months ago my '91 900 (automatic, no turbo, 130k) started to have a sporadic problem where at traffic lights the idle would briefly fall then pick back up, and sometimes repeat. Also on accelertation the car would hesitate and stumble quite frequently. After a few days it got worse and finally stalled out during one of the idle drops while at a traffic light. My mechanic wasnt able to pinpoint the problem and ended up replacing the spark plugs, which seemed to solve the problem, until 2 weeks ago, when the same symptoms resurfaced. The problem seems to occur after I drive about a mile, at 45 mph, after leaving my apartment complex and then have to wait at a long light. While at the light the idle level will drop do varying degrees, sometimes just a little, and sometimes to the point where I wonder how it didnt stall. The rest of the they way into work the idle with bounce around while at lights and upon acceleration there is a signicant hesitation, sometimes even when doing 30 mph going down the road. When I drive home at lunch, or after work, there maybe a slight hesitation once, or not even at all. The problem seems to be worse when it is raining or cooler (I live in Fla). Yesterday I brought it back into the mechanic, who once again said he couldnt pinpoint the problem, but he replaced the distributor cap and rotor and air filter, as he said those were needing a replacement. (the last major service I had was 20k and 2 years ago). Driving home from the mechanic the car ran fine. This morning the problem was worse than ever. I have researched this problem on various posting and have read varying ways to attack the problem with parts like the air mass meter, AIC, and oxygen sensor being labeled as culprits. I am not sure where to go next after reading the postings, could anyone describe the process or steps I should take to try to solve the problem the fastest way possible. I am an average do-it-yourselfer, but have little experience under the hood of a Saab.

Thanks in advance for any advice
