Definatly a risk of fire with a miss. I nearly burned my car up within 2 blocks of a carwash after washing the engine.[I knew better].
You could examine the plugs after the car idles and see if one is washed clean by the gasoline that is not burning.
You can also pull the injector wires for each plug to find it.
After that you can use a compression tester to verify if the problem is mechanical or not.
I would suspect that your problem is not ignition related because if you were dumping unburnt fuel into your exaust you probably would have destroyed the wiring due to an exaust overheat. I would guess you have a bad valve or a weak injector.
Also your description of the problem tends to support a weak valve as it runs normally off idle. a cylinder with low [but not no] compression will cause this symptom.
