I am also finding oil residue on the battery side of my 2.1L. The oil sort of "pools" up in the little ledges formed in the sides of the tranny casing. I have looked up as far as I dare behind the echaust manifold, but can not directly see a source. I checked out the area around the distributor and found no leaks there. I too, also noticed some pooling of oil near the rear spark plug, but figure that this is normal. I bought the car @ 88k and to my knowlege has never had a headgasket or valve cover gasket done (at least in my time of ownership). I know that the 2.1L's headgaskets have a tendancy to go around 100k or so, but I am not loosing any oil or much coolant (small pinside hole in the upper driver's side rad, replacing this summer with new rad).
Any suggestions? Hints?
Thanks,
JustinHiFi
