The reason I'm parting my car is because it just makes NO economic sense to repair it. I drove the busted tranny and really destroyed it - yes. I also got 50K enjoyable miles out of a car that I paid $1000 for (not including upgrades).

If I can get close to the money for the upgrades out of the car, I'd be happy. So far, I've had more interest in non-upgrade stuff so may get even more money.

So my choices were to yank the engine/tranny and do a tranny swap, replace the turbo, replace the rack, AND weld the chassis at the lower a-arm to get a car that's road worthy. Then imagine that a week later the engine lets go. It also had no headliner (big whoop), a leaky heater core, and a myriad of other minor problems (no ignition switch). So parts ($1000 at least) and labor in bone chilling cold or part it out? Part it out. Or keep it and use it for parts if I ever buy Arrietta's G5 Rally car!

If I had the facility to do all the work (garage) I would. If I could get a guaranteed good used tranny for less than $500 I would seriously consider it (yank engine/tranny, yank rack, do rust repair with engine out)-it all makes sense. It even sounds slightly fun.

Oh, I also figured maybe, just maybe, at the ripe old age of 29, that I could buy myself something newer than 10 years old to drive around. I got a '95 Aero and am quite happy with it. Replaced the upper torque arm bushings two weekends ago. So I'm still dicking around with it, I just don't need to load my tools into it every time I drive to NC to visit my girl. Plus those Aero seats (NTM the engine) KICK ASS!!!

Just my thoughts. Hey, anybody need some '85 go-fast goodies?!?!?!?

Happy Saabing
