Electric Related - stereo issues

If I drive around in daylight with the CD stereo (sub-amp powered) on, the battery meter guage stays between 12 to 13 volts. At night with headlights on, the guage reads just shy of 12. Put on the brakes and it dips even more. Then add the CD system, plus the brakes and then use the turn directionals - that combination causes the stereo system to turn itself off. I've never had a problem with starting or any other elec related problem, so I've had no real need for concern. Any tips on what I could do to resolve the drain under those conditions? The 200 watt (4 x 50 max) stereo head unit is powered by the stock wiring, while the sub-amp is powered directly from the battery using a large guage wire. A direct to battery wiring plus better ground for the head unit?
