The pinion bearings fail due to too much pressure and not lack of lubrication[A problem Saab tried to fix in 89 with the larger pinion bearing on the gear side]. Think of the pinion bearing as a paved road and the power your Saab is making as a truck that is too heavy for the road. Run the truck too many times over the road and you will get potholes. It is not going to matter what is on the road to lubricate it.
All of that said I really do not have a preference but I would try to get something that is EP rated as it tends to help things slide when the oil burns off under extreme load[burn outs]
