I've used Castrol SynTec (not "blend") 5W50 in my '89 non-turbo 5-spd since it had 15kmiles on it. It's now got 215k & counting. I think Saab's recommendation AGAINST synthetic wasn't based on lubrication, but rather based on synchro action. Synthetic is too slippery(?) & the cones (baulk rings) have a tougher time accelerating the gearset to let it mesh.
I'd be interested to hear about Honda's stuff (burlyb...) since I've got an Integra GS-R on synth 5W50, too (104kmi). I also don't want to do something stupid to the new car ('01 9.3).
