I don't see premature wear on the edges. Then again, I tend to run higher tire pressures than listed for the cars. I tend to run 34 front, 32 rear - it gives tighter handling without being too harsh. That also gives me nice, even wear.
As to installation, in my area there is a tire chain called Town Fair Tire. I'm sure there are places like that wherever you are. They sell tires at high prices, but offer some nice features, like free flat repair, discounts on alignments with tire purchase, and full-replacement warrantees. The extra features are nice, but the prices for the tires aren't. What I do is walk into the store with the printout from Tire Rack or whatever, and ask to talk to the manager. If I'm buying four tires, I can usually bargain with them. It helps to have the price of mounting and balancing from an indy in your back pocket.
I figure a package price if I mail order the tires (remember shipping!) and mounting at an indy. I've never failed to get the entire out-the-door price from Town Fair within $20 of mail order. When I figure the hassle of mail order running the tires around to be mounted, and the extra goodies like free flat repair, it's a bargain. Especially if you have a problem, you've got a face to yell at.
On very few occasions mail order turns out to be significantly cheaper, in which case it becomes worth my time to run around. But try bargaining. I remember buying snow tires, and having them mounted while I wait. They were $140 list, I got them for $75. While I was waiting, a woman came in, and bought the same tires for full price, because she didn't think to bargain.
Try it - the absolute worst thing that can happen is that you end up not buying the tires there.
