While the only way to tell for sure is to pull out the axel like Kevin and Dave said, you may also be able to get a sense for excessive play between the tripod bearing and the inner driver by tugging/twisting the axel with the car up on jack stands and blocks under the A-frame like you were going to disassemble the front end. Also, run your fingers through the grease (wear some rubber gloves) to see if any of the little spindles from the bearings are floating around in there.
However, before tearing things apart, consider the possibility that you've got a tire with a tread delamination. Have a tire store check it out and/or swap the position of the tires and see if the vibration follows the tire.
