Loud? Loud like a tree!

The 91' 900S I just bought is awsome, only complaint is that its too quiet. The previous owners put a new OEM cat back exhaust on it right before they sold it. This car is even quieter than my moms new 9-5SE, which is really quiet!.
My friends and I joke that saab's have the exhaust note of a tree(Tree's dont make any noise, hehe). I noticed that both the 9-5 and my 900 have a cat and two mufflers. I cant mess with the 9-5 without severe reprimand from mother.... argh
but I can however "fix" my car. I have no money after buying the car, so I cant afford an exhaust upgrade. Would it be wise to replace one of my two mufflers with strait pipe? My teenager instinct is telling me "ditch the big one" but im wondering if this might be too loud.
also i have heard that the only differnace between the stock turbo and N/A 900 exhaust is the 2nd little muffler(not including the very different manifold). Is this valid?
thanks alot,
austin
