Kermit has an 8V engine which has more low end torque and feels peppier around town. Kermit is also a bit lighter. The 16V has more top end, or better passing 50 - 70 or so. I had an 8VT at one time and it was an absolute rocket comared to a 16V NA. It even felt a bit peppier from idle than my 16V T, but I have not driven them side by side. It might just be 'rose quartz' (;-)) colored glasses. There is really not a lot you can do to replace the lost torque that you miss from Kermit with a 16V. THe way the more modern engines do this is with intake manifold tricks or VTEC or such.
