As long as somebody hasn't ^%# ^%ed with the wastegate trying to get more than base boost out of it, there shouldn't be a problem with preignition.
ps. The APC uses intake manifold pressure, RPM, and knock as the control feedback signals. It doesn't know anything about exhaust pressure. It also doesn't do anything about controlling fuel/air mixture. That's the ECU's job. If someone tries to run without the ecu, of course, they'll be sorely disappointed with the performance (it'll accelerate kinda like an old V*lv* ;-)
