The Saab shop manual says the A/C won't run if the outside temp is below something like 0 to 4 degrees Celsius, which is down there below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. That is definitely not my problem here in Jacksonville, Florida. (Forecast for St. Paddies' Day is 85 degrees and sunny!)
So it's not the thermal cutout, that's for sure... I think there are probably only a few cold mornings per year here where that would apply, and on those mornings, it's usually so dry I don't need the A/C for defrosting.
I think I know how to isolate the problem now. See my reply to Keith's post.
