cam followers. I would pop by a saab trained mechanic to have someone listen to it. A noisy chain starts with what you got and takes a long long time to progress. Cam followers are similar in sound (so i've been told) and I just don't know about driving cross-country with one of those.
I'm sure you will receive more thorough advice.
