Try that again.
1982 900 Turbo, has had
New fuel pump
New ignition modulator
New distributor
New auxiliary air valve
all to cure intermittent total engine quitting and fast idle problems.
Now a new behavior, but consistent. Car starts readily and idle slows some (still not enough) during first few minutes of warmup. Driving is fairly normal until it pulls out on the main road and is accelerated normally in third gear. Then if shifted into neutral (approaching STOP sign) or just declutched, engine dies. The tach looks like it's just returning to idle speed, but keeps on dropping and goes to zero. The first time, it coasted to a stop and would not fire at all until it had sat for several hours, whereupon it started and ran.
In subsequent trials, if the clutch is engaged and the vehicle momentum used to drive the engine while "giving it the gas," it can be stopped from dying completely. It can be driven around very moderately. If it is accelerated vigorously, power seem sub-normal (sometimes with a soft backfire) and the stalling behavior happens when the accelerator is released, e.g., to shift to 4th gear. Pretty intractible to drive. This is all what you'd call moderate driving, as it has not been driven far enough to get to a place for more aggressive driving.
My on-order Bentley manual will come someday. Does anyone have any ideas on this?
