Seat heater switch disassembly .. ideas?

Hi,
91 900S: In my quest to fix my heated seats (which HAVE worked, .. once since I recently bought the car), I decided that my first stop would be the switch because it is easier to remove and work with than removing the seat, the cover, and trying to repair the continuity, especially here at school.
So I've got the switch out, the bottom off, and the top off. I can see the green cap on the light as well as the selector "rod." My question is this: how do I get the plastic housing off the stupid thing? With nothing more than rudimentary tools (i.e. pliers, screwdrivers, and determination), is this possible? I tried pushing out the bottom only to find that the top was obstructing it. Then, pushing it out the top seems to present me with the circuit board and such inside getting stuck. I removed the selector rod from it's connecting pivots, but the whole thing won't budge. How is this thing stuck inside?
TIA,
Tim B.
