Bill U is right. The most likely cause is a broken wire in the grid. While you can take the switch apart, it's probably OK.
In my experience, the wires break most often either where they transition from the inner to the outer part of the seat or near the front of the seat where your thighs rest. These are the places that get the most flexing.
The fix is simple, just solder in a short section of regular stranded copper wire. Be sure you provide enough slack (a small loop) to provide some strain relief. To get access, you'll have to remove the seat cover and then peel back the fabric that secures the grid. You can stick the fabric back down with some spray adhesive. The work is a royal pain (impossible?) if you leave the seat in the car, but simple if you remove the seat (two allen-head cap screws).
