As Ubipa says, the problem isn't the gasket. I've heard that a material shift is the major problem, with both pitting of the head, and even more wear in the cylinders. (Not sure about the change in the cylidners, but there it is.)
Frankly, I would stick with the 2.0l turbo. The 'extra' maintenance in the turbo engine is making sure you change the oil regularly, which is important in any engine. Yes, there are more components, but the turbo system is pretty reliable. If you are considering an automatic, the turbo is a necessity, as the automatic cars are very slow normally-aspirated. If it's a manual, the non-turbo is acceptably quick, but the turbo adds significant boost (pun intended). This isn't just from a 'race the Camaros at a light' standpoint - a certain amount of power is a safety issue. Merging onto a highway, getting past that troublesome Semi truck on a highway upgrade, or just getting out of the way of somebody that has found out that the Laws Of Physics don't care if your license is valid.
You don't need ground-pounding power, but some power is safety. Given the possible downsides of the 2.1l, I'd go with a nice turbo.
Good luck!
