Got a few ideas for you.
First, when car is cold, try disconnecting the oxygen sensor and start it, see if the symptoms are the same. If that helps, you may have an electrical problem. I think there's a thermoswitch on the head that's supposed to make the FI system ignore the O2 sensor until the engine has warmed-up somewhat. The switch or something related to it (relays, wiring) may be defective. BTW, don't actually drive the car for more than a few minutes with the sensor disconnected, you can ruin the cat.
To test control pressure, you'll need a gauge that reads up to 50-60 PSI. But that's not the hard part, the hard part is getting the right fittings to connect the gauge to the system. Best thing may to be to grab some extra fittings off a junkyard car and fabricate an adapter. Or see if you have a local mechanic who's good with the older european cars and might have the correct tester.
It's also possible your problem might not lie with the FI system. As cars get higher in mileage, deposits build-up on the back of the valves which can have a dramatic effect on how the car runs when cold. At the shop where I used to work, one customer brought in a BMW (older bimmers are especially prone to this) because his wife refused to drive the car because it ran so badly when cold. Tuneups and so on had no effect, FI and ignition systems worked perfectly. We cleaned the back of the valves and the car instantly ran like new. This problem requires a mechanical cleaning of the valves - the deposits are hard as a rock and fuel additives will *not* remove them.
