Yes, should be tight as a <insert choice phrase>.
Otherwise, I read (maybe here?) the wheel bearings req proper torque to seat otherwise ka-blooey. You can guesstimate torque just fine using the the equation T=Fxr, a socket & breaker bar, and your own body wt. Take the torque(T) req (say 225ft#), divide by your own weight(F). The result is the number of feet(r) from the socket you stand on the breaker bar to exert the desired torque (stand on one foot :p). This is a rough approx to get you throught the week until you can have a tech re-torque it - it was very close in my case.
Thanks to Dave N for pointing out how to use that dusty physics knowledge.
