since you heard clicking inside the door. However, bite the bullet and remove the door panel to check connections for corrosion, chafing (common on older SAABs), etc. Shore up any iffy-looking wires with electrical tape, or, better yet, wire loom to guard against further chafing.
On my (now junker) '84S, the driver's door power window motor went out all of a sudden one day (stuck down, of course). My mom (a pretty good DIY person) and I traced the fault to chafed wires (shorted to ground) where the harness comes into the driver's door. I'm including that as just a thought, because my '84 didn't click inside the door (if I remember correctly). It's window just quit working (until wire was re-insulated).
If it's the motor going out, a junkyard might yield a suitable replacement.
Hope this helps!
