Troubleshooting Fuel Delivery Issues

Car: 1985 900 8-valve, non-turbo
Car began having occasional no-start issues. Can occur either hot or cold. Car has spark.
Replaced pre and main fuel pumps. Checked the fuel delivery - fuel is being delivered at the fuel filter, and post fuel filter, as determined by disconnecting the fuel line at these points and turning the car over.
If I disconnect the fuel line entering any fuel injector or at the fuel distributor, there is no fuel flowing when I turn the engine over. Should fuel flow here if I just disconnect the line, or does the system do something to keep fuel from feeding there? (seems unlikely)
Other symptoms: While driving, the car will occasionally stutter, as if out of fuel, when applying acceleration immediately after decelerating (like when you shift...you let off the gas, then get back on...at that moment, there's a momentary loss of power that appears to be a lack of fuel). This symptom is inconsistent and very annoying since it signals the onset of the no-start symptoms, and also, since it happens at shifts, will sometimes stall the car.
The no-start issue will eventually go away if I let the car sit for awhile.
Any thoughts would be appreciated! It's driving me somewhat nuts!!
