rattle in mid pipe area

Trying to isolate an annoying rattle in the exhaust sys that only occurs between 2700 - 2900 RPM - going up and coming down.
I have traced it to the area of the mid pipe - I suspected heat shield but the heat shield does not seem to be vibrating at all at those RPM - the exhaust system is does vibrate at those RPM.
The noise seems to come from the mid-pipe area. Nothing is loose - I checked...
If there was something loose in the cat, would the noise manifest itself in the mid pipe area or would it definitely sound like it was coming from the cat?
The noise is not there in the first few minutes of driving - appears shortly into the warm-up process.
This noise and my slight inner driver vibration are the only annoyances to my perfect Saab driving experience... perhaps I should be grateful... but the perfectionist in me wants the rattle gone!
Thoughts on what it could be or how I cold make it stop?
Thanks!
