Yep, he has the right answers, none of the aftermarket key manufacturers supply blanks in steel. The reason for this is the increased amount of wear a steel key will do to a standard milling cutter on a key machine & replacing these wheels can get pretty pricey. I don't cut steel keys on my machines in my lock shop for that reason ( it simply isn't worth the 3.50 )
On the other hand if you are having a real key dillemma I would definitely suggest replacing or rekeying the cylinder in question. With OE keys and cylinders the wafers in the cylinder are sure to wear faster than the key.
I suggest to all of my customers that they make copies of thier original keys as soon as they get the car, then store at least one of the originals in a safe place. I see more people everyday who thing that a copy of a key that doesn't work will somehow magically work again. If you keep an original unused you always have a good key to make copies from.
