Well, sometimes the entire car is shimmying and shaking, but the tweeters stay put quite well. They'll bend out of the way if you reach down and push them around, but they don't budge if you slam the door or hit a pothole.
As for the subwoofer, my aim has always been sound quality before sheer volume. No band-pass boxes for me ;o) I like to think of the speakers as "woofers" rather than "subwoofers", they are primarily there to give a nice balanced frequency range that the small drivers can't provide.
I'm running an old Rockford Fosgate 2-channel "punch" series amp which I believe is rated at 30wRMS per channel. The subs are in a shallow sealed enclosure (maybe 1.5 cubic feet per side?) which is usually sitting on the trunk floor facing up towards the parcel shelf. If I need to put a lot of stuff in the trunk, I flip the sub box up so that the speaker cones are facing the back seat. When the back seat is folded down, I keep the sub facing the seat back so that it is pointed down towards the floor. I can really notice the difference when the sub is in close proximity, which is why a console-mounted sub appeals to me.
