Engine mounts, maybe? >>>

Len,
I don't know for sure if your '86 would've had the hydraulic engine mounts, but if it does, then you might want to look them over...
I've heard that as those hydraulic mounts (not the solid rubber type) go bad, then they allow the engine to move about more than normal, and tranny is attached to motor, so it follows that the tranny moves as well. That said, the tranny moves and the shift rod (fastened to the car's body, not really to the engine) stays stationary, which can act like someone bumping the shifter out of gear.
However, this may not apply to you at all. Hydraulic (read "fluid-filled") type mounts are recognized by their upside-down U movement limiting bracket on these mounts. Townsend's site has a page on this, too. (If your mounts don't have upside-down U's on 'em, then this is not your SAABs problem). If is does have them, then open the hood and let someone watch the engine as you hold car still with brake and engage and disengage the clutch. If there's a LOT of movement, then engine mounts may be the cure, but it is a very hard job on the driver's side, I'm told.
Hope this helps!
