Audio system advice, GM and others? Dolby 5.1 (long) Posted by Ryan [Email] (#2222) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ryan) on Mon, 29 Apr 2002 17:40:52 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi all,
i'm trying to map out the ideal setup for a stereo system. I'm going to be running a clarion system with a digital signal processor, using Dolby 5.1. After much searching on the http://www.dolby.com site, i'm trying to find the best speaker placement to get the best SQ from the processor. Being that Dolby 5.1 runs on a front right/left, rear right/left, center and low frequency channel....here's what ive come up with so far.
Following GM's lead, i'll probably get kickpannels for the front components (likely 5.25 or 6.5 with tweet. The rears i'm probably going to run 5.25" coax in the stock 4x10 location (are coax alright, or would another component set be a better way to go, keeping a consistent frequency range throughout the car?). The low frequency will probably be a 10" sub mounted somehow in the trunk area. The center channel i'm not sure about. After reading on the dolby site (which applies to home systems, not car, but it's probably still fairly applicable), they suggest that your front speakers should be at a similar level in height, and depth in relation to the listener. This poses the big problem of where to put the center channel?
Does anyone have any tips or input into this idea? Would front left/right components be alright, with the center and rears being coax? or should i be consistent? What about speaker placement? Keeping in mind, sound quality is #1 in this install, not power.
Any tips helpful and appreciated. I want to be sure i have a good idea of what i'm doing before i start building stuff :)
