I think Audiocontroll has the "epicenter" which is a dial that allows you to adjust the volume of your center channel. But like you stated, the dolby unit has a time delay function & you can also mess with the gains on whatever amp you decide on to turn the center's volume down/blrnd it in.
From what I have seen/heard, the best way to do front speakers is like what I did. Face the mid-bass speakers towards the middle & point the tweeters towards the middle of the car's roof. This allows (at least theoretically) the driver & passenger to get equal imaging! That being said the center channel addition should affect both seats equally. Center channels were VERY popular in the late 80's/early 90's & that was in system which were only music.
