Depends on how much work you want to do... it'll physically fit of course, but then you must decide whether to use the LH 2.2 injection in your car, or the 2.4 injection from a donor car. From a smog perspective, you're probably better keeping with the 2.2 - and in that case, the key to making everything will work will be swapping the distributor from your '87 onto the new motor in addition to all the electronics... You'll be able to run the car with your old injectors, but ideally source ones from the 2.1l motor. The intake manifold I'd hope is included with the 2.1 motor, otherwise you will probably have some weird port matching to do.
I would absolutely have the block inspected before installing - even a low mileage 2.1l block could suffer the deck erosion congenital to that line... And on that subject, be SURE to perform the 2.1l service bulletin on your '87 to keep the 2.1l motor nice and cool.
