They have no dash switch, which came in as an option on some '87s and later, allowing temperature control (off, 1,2,3).

The heated seats in yours are indeed automatic, they turn on about 45-50 degrees F and off at 82 degrees F (if i remember correctly). About the only way to test them is to wait for cold weather OR spray some sort of freeze aerosol on their thermostat switch (about the size of a nickel, and about 3 nickels thick). Each seat has such a thermostat, and it is located about four inches from the seatback on the seat's bottom cushion, just under the surface of the seat cover fabric. You'd have to remove the seat from the car and peel back the seat cushion cover to find it. I did that to mine and, using an ohmmeter, I tested it for continuity (I popped my t-stat in the freezer for 5 minutes or so to get it in the right temp. range). As it turned out, that wasn't my problem, the t-stat was OK...

BTW, there is a t-stat for each seat. And each seat has two heating pads: one for the seat (bottom) cushion & one for the seatback (lower back area).

I had to repair the wires in mine (seat bottoms) this winter (they are very fragile and break if you look at them wrong!).

If you want, I can make some photos and upload them to my website (a flegling thing) of the t-stat location. I should've had my camera handy when I did the job, in the first place.

There are some awesome posts collected on this matter in the TSN FAQ on this very topic. Good luck!
