The drop to zero would indicate a bad Hall Effect sensor in the distributor, intermittent Hall Effect connector on the side of the distributor, or an ignition amplifier that's going South.
If the gas level were less than 1/4 tank, the prepump would be a suspect.
So, the main suspects are HE sensor, HE connector, Ignition amp, fuel filter, main fuel pump (I left out a few steps in the selection.)
The next time it happens, note what happens to the tach needle when you get the drop in power - that will narrow it down some more.
I had something similar happen several years ago on an '88 900S - the difference being that it wouldn't start back up. I changed the fuel filter and it never recurred, so it was probably a combination of a weak fuel pump and clogging filter (From TSN, I now know that the prepump sas bad, too.)
Just for the heck of it, check the clamps and boots on the turbo ducting - see if everything's tight.
