In one case it was the fuel pump relay. Felt just like the overboost safty switch had tripped. Did not seem to make a difference if I was accelerating or just crusing along. I troubleshoot it by jumping the relay with a piece of wire and the car drove fine. A bit a a PITA to open the hood every start/stop, but proved it was the relay. The other time it was the ignition amp, and it also gave me some starting problems. Only way to troubleshoot was replacement with a known good one. In both cases the tach needle stayed up and reading. If the tach needle drops to zero it would indicate a primary ignition problem (distributor, power, or wiring)
