88 SPG - bad idle and no go in the rain...

Can anyone provide clear instructions for testing/calibrating an AIC? My girlfriend's 88 SPG (190K miles) has a nasty idle - it hunts at cold start and drops really low when you get off the gas, then sits nicely at ~850. Lather, rinse, repeat. Boost is pretty low (mid-yellow) and the car is just overall pretty sluggish. I replaced the AMM (p/n ends in 005) with a known good one from my '86 SPG parts car, but to no avail. I'm guessing AIC now, but I don't know how to test/clean/calibrate one. Ironically, 300 miles before my trans died on the '86, I got a brand spanking new AIC, so I'm hoping the '88 can use that one (if cleaning and testing don't so the trick).
Second thing: this car will NOT run in the rain. Idle gets really rough and it tries to stall while driving. Seems to sort itself out if you can keep it running long enough to (I presume) dry out whatever's getting wet. New cap and rotor were of no help and I'm really at a loss here. Distributor itself, perhaps?
Any help is appreciated and I apologize for the novel-length post.
Thanks,
Scott
