If you are replacing the shocks and will not need them any more, jack the car up and cut the chromed damper rod from below the fenderwell. Use a sawzall to cut clear through just above the shock body or just a hack saw blade to cut halfway through remove lower mount nut, pull shock body towards you and then bend it until it snaps. May have to rotate the cut 180 degrees a few times to snap the rod as you bend. Brutal but effective. Make sure you have the right parts first.
