I have had luck with eBay, but I am pretty experienced with it. My brother just picked up a '85 900T for $1650 in rather good condition. Minimal repairs and little things necessary, but they were pretty much taken care of in a couple weeks.

My '85 900S was owned by an older couple for its entire lifetime and was well-maintained. I have gradually replaced things for prevention or addressing issues. Primary issues being master brake cylinder, clutch, exhaust; general simple wear and tear parts. I might do a transmission rebuild in the next year to keep it going smooth. The car still has an overall investment of <2k and it is in excellent condition, I love it.

As with most european cars, you are going to put out a bit more towards quality repair at a mechanic. However, SAABs are a lot cheaper to repair than certain other European cars. A parts car is fairly easy to obtain, and they can be incredibly handy. Mine has probably saved me nearly $1,000 thus far. European cars are made far better than many others, IMHO.

It is all about priorities, and where yours are. Do you want to become capable with cars? SAABs are fairly easy to work on. I had fairly little to no experience with working on cars before my 900S, and am doing well. I just finished replacing my exhaust today. But that requires patience, good reading comprehension, and viable logical skills.

SAABs are beautiful cars, appreciate the good things that come out of Europe.

Good luck.

Regards,

White Vampire\Rem
