"Labor intensive" means that you can't just walk up to it with a wrench and unscrew it and replace it in 10 minutes.

The part itself is simple to unbolt/reattach. Since it's stuffed way up front under the dash/above your feet, you have to move some ventilation ducts out of the way and climb (upside-down) under the steering wheel to do the work. Removing the speaker/vent from the driver's side of the dashboard and pulling the driver's seat out of the car helps with access, but you still wind up working with the brake pedal in your face.

The valve itself is freed up by loosening two hose clamps, pulling off the hoses, sliding the control rod off, and unscrewing 4 torx (or are they hex) screws- 1 of which is a beast if you don't have "ball head" tools.

When I did this a few years back, I think a replacement part cost around $60.00 I wouldn't be surprised if a shop would charge an hour and a half to two hours for this operation.

Needless to say, you can probably have this job done five or ten times in a row before the costs add up to the equivalent of a head gasket job or a motor swap.
