Hats off to your determined effort to diagnose the problem. The 82 I own and mother may not compare to your later year model, but I've had quirky stuff like that happen too. Two instances worth noting: the plug on the distributor had an "issue" for a time. Also, the boost pressure fuel pump cut-off switch circuit began shorting out. For as simple as that one component circuit is, the wiring has several places where it can go bad, such as the switch itself, the multi-pin plug connector that connects the fuse/relay wiring to the inside of the car, and the fuse/relay box itself. My problem was the multi-pin connector. Once I dicovered the problem, I could manually cause the symptom by manipulating the wiring that runs to the connector. Instead of trying to fix that one wire (difficult to work on), I bypassed it entirely. With your car - bad grounding, a loose or even corroded connection somewhere is a likely possibility. The alternator to engine ground is a crucial one.
