I just had the pleasure of putting a new radiator in my convertible. For $119 for the aluminum one at Sobstory I couldn't go wrong. Bummer the fan switch on my shelf was 82 degree, not 89 degree. I'll probably swap that out later.

After searching the BB here and using the bentley, I got all the electrical and turbo plumbing out of the way. The metal flange by the intercooler had to come out, and I didn't remember reading about that. That has 1 of 3 8MM fasteners. I thought most things are 10MM or 7MM... Once that was out I wish I knew the fans had slots, not holes, on the bottom. I would have just yanked 'em out. Now I know. I wiggled that the radiator out with fans, and declared victory.

Fun thing for the day: put bird food out for squirrels, then get 'em with a Super Soaker (Squirrel Soaker)! when I need a break from the wrenches, I'd grab my squirrel gun and have fun!

So, putting the radiator back with fans attached seems dumb, so I bolt it in, and then add fans. No problem. Then I did cap/wires/rotor/plugs/air filter and put the coolant back in. I just changed the coolant a few weeks ago, so no problem. I also have a few week old thermostat, so I left it there. Throttlebody was VERY clean, previous owner said it just had a major service. Based on the look of the wires, plugs and air filter, I doubt that. Cap/rotor were old, too. maybe major service is oil change & throttle body cleaning.

Let's see how cool the thing runs now! Seems much better so far! I have to take a victory lap around the 'hood, then bleed the air again.

Moral #1 of the story, yank the fans first!!!
Moral #2 maybe a n/a motor would be easier to work on!
Moral #3 When you're checking tire pressures, check the spare. My convertible's spare was empty, I doubt the previous owner ever checked it.

Happy Saabin'
