I replaced the switch and it was OK for a couple of weeks then it did it again. Broke the old one to smithereens trying to get it out. I didn't try adjusting the switch like Jim mentions, I just loosened the nut on the metal brake light/cruise control switch assembly and moved it back towards the firewall a few millimeters and tightened the nut. Seemed to work so far. Hopefully you have the same configuration in your Base model.

BTW, I had already removed the kick panel, heat ducting, carpet and seats (wanted to thoroughly clean my carpets and trouble shoot non-working cruise control), which made the components a lot easier to eyeball.
